SonicWALL Email security gateway not responding to SMTP test.
A new warning alert stating: SMTP connection queue backlogged. Condition: The warning is intended to notify the administrator of a rare, but potential problem on the Email Security server.
Alerts are received every 15 minutes, and the “pool size” number is increasing
Other alerts arrive such as “Gateway not responding to SMTP test”
When you telnet to the ES server on port 25, you do not receive a banner
At Log Level 2 (Debug mode), you see nothing but these 3 lines repeating in the MlfAsgSMTP.log:
activity – connect from [nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn] (socket:5374)
DnsHandler::dispatch – dispatching (socket:5374) (p=0)(O=0)
queueMgr::accept – pool size=100; num items in queue=4135; avail space in thread pool=0
If you are seeing these issues, you should immediately restart the Email Security services.
You may also want to check the settings under /system/connection management -
Limit number of inbound connecitons: the recommended is 250
Limit number of outbound connections: the recommended is 60
These should be left at the recommended value.
