1. Try upgrading the latest version of Java JDK6. You can install the JDK, then copy the whole “jre” directory and replace it with the “jre” directory in your sqldeveloper directory.

2. It could be another program that is interfering with sqldeveloper. Try to close all other programs and see if the locking up still happens.
3. Upgrade your network adapter driver to the latest version.
4. If you’re using wireless network, try using wired network and see if it improves.
5. Stop any services that is not necessary to further reduce potential conflicts.
6. See if the same thing happens on another computer to determine if this is a site-wide problem.
