Step 1Shut down the computer and let it sit idle for a few minutes. When shutting down the computer it is good to let all of the systems and pieces of hardware rest for a few minutes. Turning the computer right back on can actually damage the system.
Step 2Press the “Power” button on the computer. The actual location for this button is going to vary; typically it is in the middle of the computer tower or in the corner of the laptop.
Step 3Wait for the operating system to load. If the computer did not shut down properly a screen appears asking how you want to boot the computer.
Step 4Press the directional arrow keys down and select “restart” Windows XP normal.
Step 5Allow the operating system to fully load on your computer. Depending on how much content you have installed on the system this process can take a few minutes to complete. Once Windows XP has finished loading you can begin running your programs.
