Often, it can be useful to save a backup of a file or directory, which is easy and quick to restore. Copying the file to another location, or renaming it, are the usual solutions, but can cause embarrassing problems when working under pressure. You have to take great care to remember where you copied it to, or whether the rename might overwrite another valuable file… this is often the case when making urgent emergency changes to a live system. (Yes, I speak from bitter experience!)
