  If you are behind a firewall, proxy OR connected to a Local Area Network (such as home network), there are two different IP addresses that you might need to know:

  1. The IP address which the rest of the world see you: Go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ and you will see your IP address in bold. This is your “public” IP address.
  2. The IP address where your computer is being assigned:
     • In Windows, go to “Start” -> “Run”, and type “cmd”.
     • Press enter key, you should now see a black command line window.
     • Type the following command: ipconfig
     • You will now see your “private” IP address.
