  There are several things you can check.

  1. Make sure you password on the local agent and on the Backup Exec server matches the database SYS user password.

  2. Whichever user you use to connect to the Windows server that contains the database, you need to make sure the user is part of the local group “ORA_DBA”. Otherwise you’ll get the following error in the log:
  

  “The description for Event ID ( 34 ) in Source ( Oracle.xxxxx ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: ACTION : ‘CONNECT’ DATABASE USER: ’sys’ PRIVILEGE : NONE CLIENT USER: DOMAIN\Administrator CLIENT TERMINAL: CCBPRDDB1 STATUS: 1031 .”
